Captured during one of my earlier YHAI treks done in the winters of 1999 near Mussoorie in the now Uttranchal in my beautiful country India. This was the first transit camp. The participation was very low but that was the best part as we could feel the openness and the vast space around us. Usually theres a huge participation of around 40-45 people but in this case it was just 5 people in our batch. Can't express the feeling that I had during the evening when the Sun was setting down. For those interested in visiting similar places can refer Youth Hostel Association of India's website for further information of their treks. Trust me, you can't find another agency providing you such experiences at such cheap cost. ie. INR 1200.00 to INR 1800.00 for 7-10 days trek, simple vegetarian food and tent accommodation included. Just reach there and they take you to places.
Hey... am in no way having any business links with them and FYI its a govt resource functioning on a no-profit no-loss basis. So sometimes you may not get the required "Customer Service" response from them, but you do meet some of the wonderful people who may become friends for a very long time.

A Different Kind of Mobile Home

Whimsical, brightly-colored house boats sit at dock in downtown Vancouver, BC.
I particularly love the one with shingles and a peaked roof. When we were in Ketchikan, Alaska later in the trip we heard that it was cheaper to live onboard a boat there than to rent an appartment. I'm guessing the same must be true in Vancouver, too.
Grand Occidential Hotel

The Occidental Hotel was the most authentic western hotel I've ever seen. It's very unique and the Inn keeper / owner was GREAT! Nothing real fancy but you felt like you were back in the 1800's. She didn't go cheap on the new mattresses either. I slept like a baby. Most of the furnishings are original to the hotel.
Buffalo is between Rapid City, SD and Cody, Wyoming. (200 miles either way. ) I'm already talking about taking the wife back out there.
